Hand Picking Grapes

Barrel tasting weekend

8 and 9 July 2017

Free to attend

Get exclusive access to the barrel halls of wineries in Bendigo.

Vintage 2017 is over, grapes are being crushed and fermented. But that’s just the beginning of the winemaking process. Now the magic starts between wine and oak.

Barrel halls are usually guarded treasures but on the weekend of 8 and 9 July you'll get to visit sacred barrel halls throughout the Bendigo region and indulge in wine barrel alchemy*. Five winemakers will throw open the doors of their barrel halls and take you inside the sacred walls to taste wine straight from the barrel. You will meet the winemakers and uncover the mystery and romance of winemaking.

At 11am, 1pm and 3pm on both days winemakers will give you a hint of the mystery and romance of winemaking from inside the barrel. Take your pick from Mandurang Valley Wines, Connor Park Winery, Killiecrankie Wines, Sandhurst Ridge Winery and Sutton Grange Winery (Sunday only). Or better yet, make a day of it and visit more than one! Call each winery you'd like to visit and book your barrel tasting.

Like eating cherries from the tree or bread just out of the oven, a visit to the barrel hall is tasting wine straight from the source. It's the ultimate sneak preview of the magic happening in wine barrels and the chance to taste future releases before anyone else.

If you fall in love with a certain drop, be sure to check with the winemaker about a pre-release purchase at a special price.
