Bendigo Wine Makers

Knots Wines

Lindsay Ross has been involved in the Bendigo Wine Industry for over 20 years, working with Stuart Anderson at Balgownie, then as Balgownie's senior winemaker creating many award winning wines. This experience, coupled with his partner, Noeline's arts background led to the creation of this new premium quality wine brand.

Knots Wines was established in late 2000 after extensive research and planning. Our aim was to create a Bendigo centric wine business. An incredible amount of support from our industry peers ( Connor Park, Chateau Leamon, Tannery Lane), Restaurants (Quills, Typhoon, Park View) and many of our dear friends and their dear friends ensured our success as a new wine business.

The Vineyards

The Knots are a series of wines sourced from the Bendigo districts old vines, exceptional vineyard sites and passionate growers.

The growers commitment to quality is our mutual and expected rational for the Knots wines which is supported with extensive viticultural advice through out the year. All vineyards have being converted to our policy of sensitive vine management and environmentally friendly inputs.

The results of this style of vine management is low cropping vineyards with concentrated flavors. This is the requirement of all premium wine and is testament to the quality achieved in Knots wines.

The Wines

Flavor and finesse are the aims of the Knots wines. Exceptional fruit should be expressive of the variety. Achieving this in the vineyard ensures the wines are made with minimal intervention.

This provides wines that have intense varietal characters and subtle oak influence. Balance and complexity support the concentrated flavors and the long finish of these wines.

There are many exciting varietal options that are going to be available from the many small growers in the region. Look out they will be available over the next few years.

Top of the list; Italian varietals and Rhone style blends are on the drawing board. The diversity and challenge of this multi faceted brand is one of the major upsides for our business development.

Why Knots?

Typically an idea develops at the table generally late at night with good food wine and especially company. Our vineyard and wine business in its formative years was referred to as The Project. The concept developed as Knot the project after our children’s unabashed boredom to be hearing our constant reference to the planned vineyard and its development and would remark “not the project” and promptly leave the room. Having worked for quite a while in the Bendigo region and with its vineyard diversity it was designated that the Knots would become the brand champion of Bendigo in our range of wines thus sitting along side our own vineyard range The Bridge.
