Bendigo Wine Makers
Sheer Drop Wines
Our award winning
cool-climate wines are grown on the granite soils of Mount Alexander in the
Bendigo wine district.
The Sheer Drop
vineyards are located just 12km from Castlemaine, home to many renowned visual
and performing artists. The
distinctive work of painter, Katharina Rapp is showcased on our Sheer Drop
label. Garth Doolan from
Sheer Drop Wines really doesn’t enjoy self-promotion. He prefers to let his
cool-climate wines speak for him. This was certainly the case at the
presentation dinner of the Royal Hobart International Wine Show 2006. As Garth
approached the dias to accept the highly coveted trophy for Best Shiraz of Show
from His Excellency the Honourable William Cox Governor of Tasmania, many in
attendance asked the same question: Who are Sheer Drop Wines?
And when Garth Doolan
was called up a second time to receive the trophy for Best Red Wine of Show,
the sentiment of the audience was unanimous: Whoever they are, their wines must
be good!
Held in November each
year the Royal Hobart International Wine Show is one of the most significant
events in the Australian wine industry and has grown to become the second
largest in the country. Sheer Drop Wines returned from Hobart with a gold medal
and two trophies for the 2004 Sheer Drop Shiraz, a bronze medal for the 2004
Sheer Drop Cabernet Sauvignon and a bronze medal for the Sheer Drop Sparkling
Shiraz. At the presentation dinner next year the 2004 Sheer Drop Shiraz will
grace the Governor’s table!
