Rivergate Wines is the Kerr family business producing intense
flavoured, full-bodied wines at Axedale, midway between Bendigo and
Heathcote. We are a single variety vineyard growing and producing
Shiraz only. The climate provides a very long ripening season which
allows for the full development and concentration of fruit
flavours.The grapes are hand-picked from low yielding vines. The
wine is matured for 12 months in new and old American and French oak
barriques at Rivergate cellars. A select batch of grapes is matured
with special oak treatment for two years to produce a RESERVE
Shiraz. This wine develops fabulous colour, aromas and flavours.
This inky-black, huge flavoured RESERVE Shiraz is a powerful example
of handcrafted winemaking from skilfully managed vineyards. All of
our Shiraz wines are characteristic of this district, showing well
developed dense fruit characters, with integrated tannins and
balanced oak treatment.

2003 Rivergate Shiraz at a blind tasting of 48 local and national
Shiraz wines run by the Bendigo Winegrower's Association. The score
of 18.5 out of 20 is Gold Medal Standard.

2002 Rivergate Shiraz......typically spicy Shiraz characters, fine
dry tannins, intense colour.
2003 Rivergate Shiraz......huge flavoured, soft on the palate,
concentrated complex characters.
2003 Rivergate RESERVE Shiraz...... two years maturation in oak
barrels.....delicious!
2004 Rivergate Shiraz......new release, big fruit flavours, fine
tannins, smooth and powerful.
