Canadian Gold for Langanook wines...

Langanook entered two wines in the Quebec International wine competition and both gained Gold Medals. In fact the Cab Sauv was awarded a GRAND GOLD MEDAL - only 10 of these medals were awarded from entries from 28 countries. Export orders from Montreal & Toronto have eventuated.

About Langanook

Langanook is an `under 20 tonne Winery' that employs the best of traditional winemaking methods.

The grapes when crushed (must) are moved by gravity to avoid oxidation and pulverisation of the must. The rich berry characters of the fruit must be allowed to express themselves in the final wine. Winemaking follows the principle of minimal intervention and minimal fining whilst taking every care to avoid wine spoilage.

Langanook Syrah was awarded a coverted silver medal at the prestigious International Wine Show - Concours Mondial De Bruxelles 2003.

33% new oak barriques are used each year and only the best oak is used. The majority of the barriques are French oak. All red wines have 12 months oak maturation except the Reserve range which has two years oak maturation.

The Vineyard

The vineyard is located on the granite slopes of Mt Alexander at an altitude of 450 m and is named after the aboriginal word for this distinctive central Victorian landmark. The vineyard has 1260 heat summation days compared with Bendigo 1570, Yarra Valley 1250 and Bordeaux, France 1410.

The cool climate gives the complex intense flavours of a slow ripening period and the grapes are hand picked in mid-May. Vines are unirrigated and trellised by the Scott-Henry system. The vines are fuly netted against birds and are hand pruned and the grapes hand picked.
