Our winemakers

From the depth and breadth of our Shiraz to fine, full flavoured whites, our winemakers make the Bendigo region a compulsory place to tour.

Through enterprise and hard work, Bendigo's new wave of winemakers set out to re-establish the region as a quality wine producing region. Leamon Estate and Balgownie were amongst the first to start replanting in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Bendigo's winegrowers have worked together to see this region in a good position today, with winemaking excellence and award-winning wines.

The region's friendly, personal character is winning attention too. The majority of Bendigo's wineries are small to medium-sized, and are still run by the families who founded them. Regular visitors to the region fondly refer to it as "The Winemakers' Region", knowing it is not uncommon to meet the winemakers, sleeves rolled up, tending vines or working in the winery.
