Chateau Leamon Bendigo Shiraz 003
15 May 2005
As I’ve told you before I reckon you can call your winery anything you like after putting in the effort you need to so as to make wine. Indeed, I would probably name my winery (if I had one), Chateau Ippolito, but then I am prone to fits of self promotion. Indeed I tried to name this column after myself (but failed) as well as my wine newsletter (I triumphed)! Notice all the I’s I’m using, I an’t help myself!
This reminds me of the story of billionaire Don ld Trump allegedly asking his friend, whether he should call his new skyscraper, Trump Tower or Tiffany Tower, to which his friend retorted “Donald, when you change your name to Tiffany, call it Tiffany Tower!”. Anyway, Ian Leamon should have no qualms stamping his name onto this wine. It is a glorious purple crimson that makes statement of being classic Bendigo Shiraz.
A complex intense wine which is soft and spicy with distinct and concentrated flavours. It is so smooth and fruit driven on the palate with a velvety texture. It should cellar 5 plus years and I would (I did) have it with curried sausages. Benchmark Bendigo Shiraz at a decent price of around the early to mid twenties. I am going now!
