Water Wheel “Memsie” Sauvignon Blanc Semillon Rousanne 2004
15 May 2005
Baby it’s cold outside, well it is where I’m sitting in Sydney today, and dark, overcast and miserably wet outside.
It’s been like this for a few days. Summer is but a distant memory and the cool autumnal mornings reminder of what is to come.
The sort of day you think I really, really don’t want to work. Ok, then, let’s just shut our eyes for a moment and go back a few weeks to a recent Saturday afternoon when you had some friends over, the barbeque going and you were cracking some fine bottles of wine open.
Imagine having a glass of this white blend from Bendigo in your hand, brilliant water white in colour, all young, fresh, delicate and very pleasant.
Easy drinking, just gliding down that throat - light bodied and medium dry in finish. Lots of tropical fruit (you imagine you are on some Hawaiian island), some hints of spice and lots of zest yet underpinned by subtleness.
All this while you are taking out some Tasmanian scallops marinated in lime juice to sizzle on the bbq to have with the dozen Sydney Rock oysters you just shucked (what legend, you are!). This is just sensational, you say, you glance at the bottle, and you say to your friends, how do they do it for the price! (About $12). Gee, summer is great, isn’t it? Snap! Sorry, the fun’s over.
Now get back to work!!! Ah, but I forgot, only wine writers have to work on Saturdays!
