Three Wineries Attend Export Mission in Canada
28 May 2007
THREE
BENDIGO WINERIES AIM FOR CANADIAN SUCCESS.
BlackJack Wines, Sandhurst Ridge Winery and
Turner’s Crossing Estate are three Bendigo wine region businesses who will be
heading to Canada this week to participate in an export trade mission called
Discover Australia. The event is an Austrade food and wine promotion that the Australian Trade
Commission has been running for four years.
It is on from 31 May to 7 June 2007.
Regional
Development Victoria is assisting the Bendigo wineries to attend along with a
further nine Victorian wineries. The aim
of this trade mission is to showcase Australian products to determine and
identify potential partners in three Canadian provincial markets; Vancouver,
Calgary and Toronto. Discover
Australia will attract the interest of agents in the alcoholic beverages field
as well as food brokers, importers, distributors, restaurateurs and
retailers.
“This event will provide an excellent opportunity
for our winegrowers to link up with potential partners in the Canadian market
and ultimately increase avenues for wine sales in the international market,”
said Paul Greblo, President, Bendigo Winegrowers Association. “Success at this sort of event helps to build
the profile of both wine brands and wine regions, so it is important to all
Bendigo growers.”
BlackJack Wines are located in the valley in on the
Calder Highway in Harcourt. They have
established an enviable reputation for producing fine and generous red wines,
since their first release in 1994 and have exported to places including
Singapore and Ireland. In both 1996 and
2004 their Shiraz (1994 & 2002 Vintages respectively) won Best Shiraz in
the open section of the Royal Melbourne Wine Show. And at the 2004 show the wine also won the prestigious
Premier’s Trophy.
Sandhurst Ridge Winery, located at Marong is a
family-owned boutique winery. In 2005 it
was awarded a five-star rating by James Halliday and has been nominated by the
AWBC for the George Mackey Memorial Trophy for outstanding wine exported.
Turner’s Crossing Estate
was voted in
the top 10 new wineries for 2006 by James Halliday in his “2007 Australian Wine
Companion”. The wines are distinctly hand-crafted. The vineyard is located on the banks
of the Loddon River on the Old Bridgewater Serpentine Road, Serpentine.
“We wish these three wineries great success as they
venture to Canada. The trip is
indicative of the quality of the wines and commitment of the winemakers. It is also a wonderful way to keep striving
to put Bendigo on the map,” said Kathryn Mackenzie, Executive Manager Tourism,
City of Greater Bendigo.
