Success in China for Mandurang Valley Wines

15 October 2009

Wes Vine, General Manager and Winemaker at Mandurang Valley Wines has recently returned from a successful week in Nanjing in China.

Since 2007 this well-known Bendigo winery has been exporting wine to China.  The demand for the local wine has doubled each year and a new contract has recently been negotiated for 2,200 cases for 2009.

“This business relationship has been significant for us and we are delighted with the demand for our wines in China”, said Wes Vine.  “Our latest order is due to leave Australia at the end October.”

Wine business with China continues to show promise for Mandurang Valley Wines.  Wes has made many contacts in China in the last two years, having visited China four times.  In addition, he and his wife Pamela have hosted in Australia three visits of prospective Chinese importers in the last 12 months.

In a further development from these strengthening relationships between China and Mandurang Valley Wines, Wes is assisting his current importers in establishing a 20 hectare trial vineyard in the County of Xuyi, in the Jiangsu Province, 100km north of Nanjing.

So far four hectares have been planted and the vines will come into production in 2011.  An additional 16 hectares will be planted in November/December this year.  Wes is also assisting in planning of a winery capable of processing 200 tonnes, with construction due to will commence early in 2010.

The Government of Xuyi strongly supports this wine production initiative and has consequently undertaken a formal arrangement with Mandurang Valley Wines, allowing this Bendigo winery to be the sole supplier of wine for formal receptions and banquets.

Mandurang Valley Wines is located at 77 Fadersons Lane, Mandurang and the phone number is 5439 5367.
