Glenwillow Vineyard Aims for Gold Again
14 November 2008
This weekend Glenwillow Vineyard will attempt to
achieve gold again at the Daylesford Wine Show. At last year’s event the Bendigo Region
winery picked up a major trophy for Best Shiraz of Show, as well as a gold
medal for their 2006 Reserve Shiraz.
Glenwillow Vineyard is a local family-owned
vineyard located at Yandoit Creek near Newstead. The winery produces premium
Shiraz with smaller amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon, Nebbiolo and Barbera.
Occasionally, they also release Reserve wines which are elegant, intense
flavoured wines with excellent structure and a superb, long finish.
Other recent success for Glenwillow Vineyard include
a gold medal for the 2005 Reserve Shiraz at the Australian and New Zealand
Small Winemakers Show in Stanthorpe and in the 2009 edition of James Halliday’s
Australian Wine Companion the winery received a solid 92/100 for the 2006
Reserve Shiraz, noting a “far superior colour hue and depth…..”
“We are thrilled to be achieving some good
results,” said Peter Fyffe, Glenwillow Vineyard owner and winemaker. “Entering our wines into shows provides
terrific recognition opportunities and all feedback helps to continually
improve the wine quality with each vintage.”
Like most others in Central Victoria earlier this
year, the 2008 vintage at Glenwillow
Vineyard was one of extremes. The early season in December
and January was looking great with moderate conditions and even ripening of the grapes. Yield and quality were
both looking good. However, the very hot period in February pushed up the sugar
levels quicker than expected. Though
even with this in mind, early indications
are that flavours and intensity are very promising and sure to again produce
some really great wines.
To try the award-winning wines visit a selection of
local retail outlets including Castlemaine Cellars, WineBank on View or
