Bendigo Wine Region News
Rare Reds Unearthed in Richmond
07 October 2008
Rare Reds Unearthed is a dinner event to profile the rare wine gems from the Bendigo Wine Region’s smaller wineries - those who don’t have a cellar door outlet. It will be held at the highly-regarded Church St Enoteca Ristorante in Richmond, Melbourne from 7pm on both Monday 27th and Tuesday 28th October 2008.
Passionate boutique vignerons from the Bendigo region will personally present their wines at a fabulous dinner event. It will be an opportunity to meet the eight winemakers and to taste and purchase wines not usually available 'on the shelf'. Local Bendigo produce will also be incorporated.
The wines will be from eight of Bendigo’s wineries. The wineries are Black Estate, Burnt Acre, Glenwillow Vineyard, Knots Wines, Newbridge Wines, Sanctuary Hill, Turner’s Crossing Vineyard and Wellbush Vineyard. In the recent James Halliday Wine Companion these wineries enjoyed a range of ratings, with three of them achieving wine scores of 90 points and over and one achieving the highest possible accolade of five red stars, which denotes "outstanding winery regularly producing wines of exemplary quality and typicity".
A highlight at these dinners will be the guest speaker Ross Duke. A well-respected wine specialist, he has had twenty-five years experience tasting, travelling and selecting wines from all of the world’s great vineyards and regions. It is somewhat of a coup to have secured him for this event!
He was initially the Managing Director of fine wine Merchant ‘Duke & Moorfield Vintners' in Melbourne, later to be Director of ‘Duke & Lynch' in Armadale. During that period of involvement in the wine trade he has become Australia’s specialist importer of fine wine. Whether it be the classical chateaux of Bordeaux, the great Champagnes of France or the perplexing task of sifting through the superb Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines of Burgundy, Ross has a depth of knowledge and experience that can be relied upon.
The evening will commence at 7.00pm with an aperitif for a 7.30pm sit down to commence dinner. Bookings are essential with tickets $100 per person. To book tickets for Rare Reds Unearthed call Church St Enoteca Ristorante on 9428 7898.
The eight participating wineries are all located in the Bendigo Wine Region and for more information about them visit www.bendigowine.org.au
