Bendigo Wine Region News
Cabernet The Day Away
18 July 2008
Saturday
2nd August from 11am – 5pm
At
Harcourt Valley Winery, 3339 Calder Highway, Harcourt
Harcourt Valley Winery is holding
an event that might well be enough to chase away those winter blues. Their festival ‘Cabernet
The Day Away’ is a deep winter celebration of local wine, food and music
and it is on Saturday 2 August 2008.
It will also be the official
launch of their highly awarded 2005 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon which has won 7
medals to date including a Top Gold medal at the Australian Small Winemakers
Show and a Silver medal at the Royal Melbourne Wine Show.
Patrons will be treated to
locally baked fresh crusty bread with Harcourt Valley’s latest olive oil,
harvested only weeks ago. For lunch a
Bullboar (a local Swiss-Italian inspired delicacy made from beef, pork, purple
garlic, red wine and spices) will be served on a bed of creamy mash potato,
caramelised onions and topped off with plum sauce.
Live music will feature local
legend Broderick Smith along with Shannon Bourne playing roots based music. Patrons will also have the opportunity to
test their sommelier skills in ‘blind tastings’ putting their palates to the
test trying to identify different varieties and vintages of wines. A prize of a dozen wines will be awarded to
the most accurate identification of the wines.
Harcourt Valley Winery will open
up their winery and patrons will be able to wander through the wine making
area, amongst barrels of wine, and may even be lucky enough to be treated to
barrel tastings of the upcoming vintages.
This will be an indoor/outdoor
event with plenty of warm cosy fires and heating. Tickets include a souvenir tasting glass,
glass of wine and lunch. All this for
only $20 pre-booked or $25 on the day. It
will also be a child and dog friendly day out.
