A Sparkling Success for Sheer Drop Wines
07 November 2007
Last week Sheer Drop Wines from Faraday in the
Bendigo Wine region was awarded three medals at the prestigious Victorian Wines
Show presentation dinner at Michelton Estate Winery.
The Sheer Drop
2004 Shiraz was awarded the Shiraz Society of Victoria Trophy for Best Shiraz. The Sheer Drop Shiraz was
also awarded a second trophy for Best
Red Wine at show.
A surprise win
was the third trophy presented to Sheer Drop Wines for the evening: the Fine
Wines and Spirits Trophy for Best
Sparkling Wine. The Sheer Drop Sparkling Shiraz is the first
Bendigo wine to be awarded Best Sparkling Wine at show.
"This is
perhaps our most satisfying win to date", said winemaker Garth Doolan.
"We have always had great faith in our Sparkling Shiraz. The competition
in this class, which includes reds and whites can be quite fierce".
The Victorian Wines Show is open only to wines grown and made in
Victoria.
The performance of Sheer Drop Wines at the Victorian Wines Show follows
past success at the Royal Melbourne Wine Show 2007, National Wine Show 2006 and
Victorian Wines Show 2006.
At the Royal Melbourne Wine Show earlier this year Sheer
Drop Wines was nominated for the Premier’s Gold Trophy, which this
year celebrates its 10th year. The field included St Hubert's Pinot Noir
2006; McIvor Estate Shiraz 2005; Blue Pyrenees Mistress Shiraz Viognier 2004;
and the Sheer Drop NV Sparkling Shiraz.
The McIvor Estate
Shiraz from Heathcote was awarded the coveted prize which was presented by
Premier John Brumby. ENDS………..
