Bendigo Wine Region News
London Prizes For Bendigo Wines
12 October 2007
Three
Bendigo Wine region wines were awarded prestigious Silver Medals (Best in
Class) at The International Wine and Spirit Competition in London last
week. These wines included Balgownie
Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2004, Sheer Drop Wines Shiraz 2004 and Langanook
Syrah 2005. Each of these Bendigo
wineries will be on display at the Bendigo Heritage Uncorked event in the city
this weekend.
The
International Wine & Spirit Competition was founded in 1969 and is the
premier competition of its kind on the international stage. Its aim is to promote the quality and
excellence of the world's best wines, spirits and liqueurs.
All
wines, spirits and liqueurs are blind tasted in groups divided by variety,
region and vintage as necessary. Entries
to the competition must be available in commercial quantities to eliminate the
possibility of "show" products participating and must be from an
identifiable batch or lot. The competition is unique in that all medal winners
are subject to technical analysis before results are released.
For wine
enthusiasts who are unable to attend Bendigo Heritage Uncorked over the
weekend, there will be a “Bendigo Wine Shop” set up and open to the general
public in BRIT’s MacGillvray Hall on McCrae Street from 11am – 6pm on both
Saturday and Sunday. This is a rare and
convenient way to purchase your wines from most Bendigo wineries at cellar door
prices and in one handy location.
There
will be many award-winning wines to choose from at the Bendigo Heritage
Uncorked “Bendigo Wine Shop” and the winning wineries from the recent London
competition will be there too.
