Connor Park Wines toast of the AFL
07 September 2007
It will be a month of premierships for Bendigo's Connor Park Winery when the AFL finals series kicks off this weekend. Their wines have been selected for official AFL events in the countdown to that day last Saturday in September.
Ross and Robyn Lougoon have sent off 44 cases of their best wines to help football fans toast the success of their teams in the September action.
"Our wines will be on the table for all AFL functions throughout the finals," Ross said. "It's a great accolade for a small regional winery."
Ross said the AFL was attracted to the Bendigo product after a number of officials attended a recent Bendigo Bombers president's luncheon. "We've been sponsoring the Bendigo Bombers for the last three years by providing wines for president's luncheons at home games.
"One of the luncheons this year was attended by officials from the AFL who were so impressed with our wine and our commitment to supporting high-level football in regional Victoria, that they decided Connor Park wines should be the choice for all functions in the 2007 finals series."
Ross said supporting the Bendigo Bombers had been a good community partnership for Connor Park. "Sometimes smaller businesses are afraid to make a major sponsorship commitment but you never know where those partnerships will lead. In our case, it's taken another home-grown Bendigo product to the best sporting competition in the land."
And to cap off a successful week for Connor Park, the winery's new 2004 Shiraz has been named equal top of class ($20-$25) in the Winestate magazine's annual Shiraz Challenge for Australian and New Zealand releases.
