Wes Vine, President
Bendigo Winegrowers Association
The buds are bursting on our vines - a sure sign of Spring. Soon we'll see shoots, leaves and tiny bunches, and so begins another year in the winemaker's calendar.
Most vignerons have laid down their pruning secateurs, but a few are still out there in the vineyard, racing against the clock to prune their cabernet vines. This variety is usually the last to go into budburst in the Bendigo region. This winter gave us plenty of rain so our vines will be very happy with their wet feet.
Make a weekend in Bendigo at the Maticevski exhibition at the Bendigo Art Gallery or even the Blues Tram in the city centre. Make a visit to our many cellar doors and you'll find winemakers working in the vineyard or tending to their vines.
